RotorSports Racing offers custom built rotary engines for all applications from stock to performance street to full race turbo engines. Our engines are available in a broad range of preparation levels and are tailored to fit your particular needs. Since 1981 we have been helping racers and enthusiasts meet their goals and win races with a no-compromise approach to engine preparation and development. We also carry Mazda Competition parts and modify stock parts for customers who wish to assemble their own engines.
Stage 3 Engines include all of the Stage 2 preparations plus the engine rotors are machined and heavy duty 3mm apex seals with dual springs are installed to prevent seal 'skipping' at high rpms and reduce the risk of engine damage from high turbo boost. The Ford 2.3-liter in-line four-cylinder engine, commonly called the Lima engine because Ford manufactured it in Lima, Ohio, belongs to the 2.0-, 2.3- and 2.5-liter engine family. Ford produced the 2.3-liter engine from 1974 to 1997. The engine is not related to Ford's in-four-cylinders that powered the 1932 to.
Engine Features
All RotorSports Racing engines include new internal seals, bearings, gaskets and lapped or new side housings. Final assembly of the engine includes setting all clearances within race proven tolerances. This assures you of getting both maximum performance and long service from your engine. Our Stage 2 thru Stage 4 engines feature new rotor housings and upgraded engine seals and bearings plus additional modifications for better power and reliability. We address the weaknesses found on stock engines and remanufactured engines. Our philosophy is one of no compromises when it comes to quality of engines. If you are looking for stock replacement engines or low budget rebuilds, then perhaps a factory remanufactured engine is more in line with your needs. You may find less costly engine builders out there, but we do not cut corners or reuse components that should be replaced. As well, we take the time to check tolerances carefully for components that do get re-used and during the build process. Often, our specifications are greater than those specfied as acceptable by Mazda.
The most expensive engine rebuilds are the ones you have to rebuild twice!
Let RotorSports Racing do it right for you the first time.

Engine Specifications
RotorSports Racing Engine Stages are designed to meet performance, application, and budget expectations. They are however, also a guideline for pricing and modification purposes, as any engine can be designed to meet your own specific needs. For instance, there are options such as ceramic apex seals for optimum reliability that may be substituted for our standard upgraded apex seals. The stages are also to be considered as options to meet your specific requirements rather than a chronological step procedure to performance and reliability on the same engine.
Stage 1
Stock Rebuilds are an economical choice for engine replacement without sacrificing reliability. Each engine receives careful inspection upon disassembly and all components cleaned and checked for wear or damage. All engine seals, bearings, gaskets and related springs and rubber 'O' rings are replaced with new OEM parts. The side housings are micro-lapped to restore them to better than new condition. Engine Rotors and Rotor Housings are reused only if in excellent condition and chosen by the customer over new ones. Engine assembly includes installation of front cover and sealing the oilpan, additional accessories can be installed as well at customers request.

Stage 2
Stage 2 Engines feature new rotor housings, upgraded apex seals with heavy duty springs, competition oil seal springs, new oil pump and chain, high pressure oil regulator, and improved design high flow main bearings.

Stage 3
Stage 3 Engines include all of the Stage 2 preparations plus the engine rotors are machined and heavy duty 3mm apex seals with dual springs are installed to prevent seal 'skipping' at high rpms and reduce the risk of engine damage from high turbo boost. Additionally the rotors are race clearanced, rotor housings receive the cooling modification, the oil passages are enlarged, and eccentric shaft modifications are performed.

Stage 4
Stage 4 Engines are built using all new engine components modified to racing specifications. All Stage 3 preparations plus careful selection of both competition and modified OEM parts to build the best motor for your needs. Recommended for highly modified normally aspirated and turbo/ nitrous engines.

Streetporting
Porting of the intake and exhaust ports to maximize engine power without adversely affecting street driveability. Porting can only be performed on excellent condition used or new housings and may require additional component replacement. This modification involves porting all the intake and exhaust ports to change the induction and exhaust timing and improve the airflow throughout the engine operating range. Simply grinding out the ports to a predetermined size without considering the rpm range, and portflow characteristics will produce a lazy, and slow responding motor that makes good horsepower only above 4000 rpm . Our proven porting is designed for each engine type to flow more air by maintaining high velocity through the port. This improves torque and peak power without sacrificing throttle response or smooth idling.
Free photoshop no download required. Bridgeporting
For race prepared engines. This porting method involves adding additional ports which increase intake timing. Due to the increased intake to exhaust cycle overlap, bridgeported engines must be revved much higher and require more internal engine modifications in order to operate safely at these higher rpms. Engine idle, low rpm power, and throttle response are compromised for maximum power. Several types of bridgeporting, including turbo applications, are available.
Rotor Housing Cooling Modification
To increase the surface area and reduce thermal loads on race and turbocharged engines we cut cooling fins into the coolant passages in the rotor housing hot zones. The result is less rotor housing water seal failures and extended apex seal life.
Eccentric Shaft Modification
For race engines the factory ball and spring are replaced with fixed jets for improved oil flow at high rpms . The shaft journals are also polished to improve bearing life. Not recommended for street driven cars due to low rpm driving, and thus lower oil pressures experienced in stop and go conditions.
Two Piece Eccentric Shaft
Another option to rotor clearancing is using the lighter two piece eccentric shaft by Guru Motorsports in Australia. This reduces flex in the e-shaft at high rpm's thus enabling the rotor clearances to be set at minimum and seal clearances to be tighter. This means more horsepower. And it's 2.6 lbs lighter than the stock Mazda eccentric shaft, which means quicker rev's and less stress. Read more.
Rotor Clearancing
For high rpm operation increased clearance between the rotors and the housing is necessary to prevent contact due to heat induced expansion and rotational forces. For bridgeported and high boost turbo engines. See also two piece eccentric shaft below.
Cryogenic Processing
Cryogenic processing strengthens metalic components through a process of controlled temperature reduction to specific cold temperatures within specialized containers and then controlled raising of the temperature. Used in racing for years for strength and longevity in high performance engines. Racers report 3-5 times increase in component life in race environments. Read more
Engine/Turbo Coatings
Various coatings are available to lower friction, provide heat barriers, resist corrosion, resist carbon buildup, prevent icing, and more including Coolkrome. Highly recommended for high performance components for added power and reliability. Available for engine components, intakes, turbos, transmissions, differentials, brake systems, and more. Read more
Urethane Motor Mounts
High performance high horsepower engines can break the stock motor mounts. And over time, the stock mounts become weaker until one eventually breaks. Consider RotorSports Racing's Urethane Motor Mounts with your engine rebuild.
Extrude Hone & Throttlebody Bore
RotorSports Racing offers Extrude Hone services for serious rotary engine enthusiasts. You can enlarge the passageways within the upper and lower intake, and if needed, the throttlebody. Portflow is matched and surface contour is improved. The result is more power through balanced airflow and efficiency. Services can be performed to 13B and 20B intakes to maximize cfm airflow.

Sonic Cleaning
Sonic cleaning services are available for just about anything that needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Commonly used for radiators, oil coolers, intercoolers, or other components that can be difficult to clean by design. For instance, a spun bearing will deposit bearing material throughout the oil passage system. While much of it will settle in the oilpan, it is highly recommended in such cases to sonic clean the oil cooler and inspect the turbo(s). Upon disassembly of engines for rebuild, we sonic cleaned parts prior to inspection and preparation.
